Smart socks that alleviate pain

Diabetes leads to nerve damage in half of all people affected, starting in the feet. The smart sock from ETH spin-off MYNERVA helps sufferers feel the ground again when walking and alleviates their chronic pain.

In brief

  • People with diabetic neuropathy suffer from loss of sensation in the extremities and chronic pain.
  • ETH spin-off MYNERVA has developed a sock with artificial intelligence that records pressure distribution when walking and transmits this in real time to healthy parts of the nerves.
  • Not only can diabetics walk more safely, but they also experience reduced pain thanks to electrical nerve stimulation and may require medication less frequently.
