To advance development at MUVON Therapeutics AG (MUVON), the Translational Center for Surgery OR-X at Balgrist, and Wyss Zurich’s Biomedical and Robotics Technologies Platform (BIROP) created precisely such a high-fidelity setting. The advanced surgical infrastructure at OR-X allowed the team to test the novel injection device within workflows that reflect real-world clinical conditions, offering a rare opportunity to observe authentic user behavior. Such realistic simulation is indispensable for understanding how a device performs under pressure, in complex team settings, and with the constraints of actual clinical practice.

Across two intensive workshops, the exceptional dedication of clinicians, the close collaboration between the MUVON and BIROP teams, and the expertise of an ultrasound specialist created an atmosphere of focus and momentum. Supported by BIROP’s deep experience in translational engineering and its commitment to guiding projects through this essential phase, the team leveraged advanced imaging technologies and structured human-factor protocols to capture valuable insights that will directly shape the next development steps.
“We are grateful for the outstanding contributions and very happy with the outcome, which will be essential for the next phase,” said Beatrix Rauch Schmid, Technology Director at MUVON.
This collaboration demonstrates how Zurich’s innovation ecosystem—where medicine, engineering, and entrepreneurship intersect—enables rigorous human-factor testing, accelerates device refinement, and ultimately drives forward solutions that will benefit future patients.
